MY STYLE

OF PHOTOGRAPHY

There are many definitions of photography, but the one which best resonates with me is: 'Photography is the art of capturing the beauty of life, the act of capturing the moment'. In essence, a photographer is someone who is passionate about taking photographs and who tries to seize the perfect image.

It is this passion which gets me out of bed before the sun comes up in order to secure the perfect sunrise in a still image. Photography, as with many things in life, is subjective. My aim as an events photographer is to use my experience to anticipate those golden moments before they happen. I thrive on the uncertainty of photographing events and the excitement of those magical images appearing.

Col Sim Photography -Hong Kong Photographer

BACKGROUND

Born in Singapore to Scottish parents, I spent the bulk of my childhood growing up in Hong Kong. Asia feels like a true home to me, and it serves as an extraordinary backdrop for the wealth of stunning vistas I’ve experienced: from sweeping mountain ranges and sun-drenched beaches to the striking juxtaposition of old and new across its urban centers.

I returned to Hong Kong in 2007 and married Linda, with whom I attended both primary and secondary school in the Hong Kong. We now have two children: 15-year-old Luke and 14-year-old Chloe, who have been phenomenal, accommodating test subjects for my portrait photography work.

As a full time Hong Kong photographer, I’m passionate about creating portraits and visual stories that feel natural, meaningful, and distinctly personal. I love capturing the character of people and the atmosphere around them—whether at corporate events, conferences, weddings, or any gathering—either in studio or on location.
